2024–now: I am representing the Dutch NGO Algorithm Audit as a representative in CEN/CENELEC JTC21 WG3 and contributing to the development of a harmonized standard for AI Bias Assessment and Mitigation, implementing the EU’s AI Act.
2022–now: I am a co-organizer of the FAIMI initiative (and MICCAI SIG) for the fairness of AI in medical image analysis. In this capacity, I have co-organized several highly successful workshops and am currently co-editing a MELBA special issue.
I am occasionally consulting for journalists and companies on AI topics (both general/technical and with a particular focus on ethics/fairness), such as for this excellent investigative reporting case study.
I have been reviewing extensively for many different venues for years, including MICCAI, NeurIPS, ICLR, AISTATS, AAAI, CVPR, ML4H, and others. I take pride in (I hope) always providing thorough and constructive reviews.

2020 award for patient safety in medical engineering by the German association for biomedical technology (DGBMT) and the Aktionsbündnis Patientensicherheit (APS), 2nd place. (For our work on surface EMG-based monitoring of respiratory effort, specifically these two papers: [1], [2].)
